The baby birdies are growing...

We secured the fern to protect these little ones. There was a storm brewing, but it ended up passing on...as usual.

I think the babies look crazy...they are so small and red and they have unusually dark stripy feathers... I guess this is how they are supposed to look. I am sure Momma bird thinks they are beautiful!

Movies at the park

Did you ever go to a drive through as a kid...they were so much fun!!! Our city, Kyle, has family movie nights at the park.

It was so much fun eating outside and cuddling up with our blankets while watching a movie outside. The weather was perfect!

There was a great crowd with several families. The movie they showed was Bolt - one of our girl's favorites.

I got some glow in the dark bracelets for them to wear while we were there. During the movie Cari rolled over on her back and just looked up at the sky and pointed out the clouds and the stars...and one time an airplane.

It was neat to share that experience with the family. We plan on going back all summer.

Cami's Slumber Party!

So Cami had her girlfriends from school over to spend the night. Every girl from her class came. It was the last get together for all of them before summer. They were all so excited!!! Here they are playing the Wii.

The girls favorite thing to do at school is jump rope and Camille has become a pro!

The girls decided to pile into Camille's room and watch a movie before eventually - and I mean eventually...fall asleep.

Holly, Cari, Haley, Cami, & Madison

The next day they woke up saying they wished they were all sisters and lived here at Cami's house...a dream for them, but a nightmare for me! I am just glad I could give them a day/night full of great memories and fun! Slumbers parties are the best...until your the parent.

I forgot how loud us girls are!!!

We found a nest!!!

My husband came home and surprised me with two hanging ferns for our porch at the beginning of spring. Since then I was surprised again one day while I was watering one of the ferns at night when a bird flew out of it as I poured the water in it. It scared me so bad I tripped over one of my rocking chairs while trying to duck away. After that night, I would see the bird leave and come back to the fern. Well, today I was fertilizing all of my plants and it came time to do the ferns...I took one of the ferns down so I could water it and then I discovered this nest of baby birds!!! I felt like I was a person from the Discovery channel...you can see one little egg still in the nest...it is light blue with little dots. These ferns came as a surprise to me and have continued to surprise me time and time again. I told my husband that this was the best gift he could ever give me!!! I can't water my fern anymore, but I have a little bird family that lives on my porch - so much fun!!! The girls got to see the newborn birdies! I don't want the fern to die, but I don't know what else to do.

Sweet Berry Farm 3

We didn't let a little rain ruin our trip. We all had a great time! We were able to take our time and not worry about the heat or the crowds.

I would encourage you to make the best of your situations each day and teach your children the hidden surprises that can be found even on a rainy day!

Sweet Berry Farm 2

The blackberries were ginormous!!! The only problem was the thorns! Chad and I felt like we were playing Operation...trying to pick the berries without getting shocked by the pricks. Somehow it became addictive. We kept finding more and more that were bigger and bigger. We ended up surprised at how many we got by the time finished.

Sweet Berry Farm...in the rain!!!

This weekend we had planed to go and pick strawberries at the Sweet Berry Farm in Marble Falls. We had a great time in the fall and we wanted to have fun there in the spring as well. One minor detail, it rained!!! We decided to make the best of it since we drove over an hour to get there. We asked the kids if they didn't mine playing in the rain and we thought it might actually be fun. Once we got our box and walked over to the strawberry patch and quickly figured out that best idea was to take our shoes off and get a foot massage in the soft mud. After the shock of the cold water wore off we began to have fun in the water! We picked a lot of berries and made a wonderful memory with the girls.

Children are like kites...

Erma Bombeck writes:“I see children as kites. You spend a lifetime trying to get them off the ground. You run with them until you’re both breathless … they crash … you add a longer tail … they hit the rooftop … you pluck them out of the spout. You patch and comfort, adjust and teach. You watch them lifted by the wind and assure them that someday they’ll fly. Finally they are airborne, but they need more string so you keep letting it out. With each twist of the ball of twine there is a sadness that goes with the joy, because the kite becomes more distant, and somehow you know it won’t be long before that beautiful creature will snap the lifeline that bound you together and soar as it was meant to soar – free and alone. Only then do you know that you did your job.”

Wow! Well, I don't know about you, but I am so glad that my kites have not yet learn to fly up too high...at this point in my life I get the privilege of having them low to the ground, but I know one day they will fly up high and I will be proud of their achievements. But right now, I will keep them very close while I can and enjoy them every step of the way!!!

To all the moms out there that are seeing their children graduate this month...you did a great job!

Slip N Slide!!!

Remember being a kid and loving the fun of sliding on a slip and slide...Chad became a kid again on Sunday and showed the girls how to go "super-dupper" fast (as Carigan would say) in the backyard! They all had so much fun...I think for us it is now officially summer!!!

I hope you can find fun ways to stay cool during the summer as well! Warning...trying this will bring out the kid in you!
